Assessment 2- Case Study

Assessment 2: Case Study

OVERVIEW
Paper that articulates leadership of an early childhood setting through an activist frame
LENGTH
1500 words equivalent

Due
Week 3, Session 9 After Class by 11:59pm
DETAILS
This assessment asks you to draw upon your experience to compile a case study of leadership in an Early childhood Centre. It will feature a real experience that you have participated in during your studies and placements at schools, kindergartens and child care or from your life experience in the workforce. All of these examples will enable you to provide the detail as outlined below.
INSTRUCTIONS
Think about your experiences in ECE and choose one example of leadership – effective or ineffective leadership. Sketch your experience to paint a picture of the circumstances.
Begin planning and then writing your paper (please note: the questions are there to guide you and prompt you to think, you don’t have to answer all of them. Consider the questions that have been underlined):

a. Start with a precise introduction that concisely defines effective leadership (approx. 150 words)

b. Case Study – Talk about your experience/example/case study. The first paragraph of your case study should provide the context. Are you writing from your experience on a recent placement, previous placements or experience in the workplace employed in an early childhood service (OSHC, child care, etc?) Staff members names should be changed for confidentiality or use initials and the names of services must be excluded from your submission. A definition of the role of effective leaders such as pedagogical leaders or the role of the educational leader using current literature/readings should be made. (approx. 400 words)
c. Reflection – For this section the expectation is to critically reflect – please be careful not to describe each detail, instead consider your feelings, uncertainty or confidence in consolidating knowledge from your placement experience on leadership – i.e. Did you feel supported in the organisations leadership structure? Did you feel that you belonged? Were the expectations clarified? What worked well in your leaders or your communication? How did you know that the leadership was effective or ineffective? How did you overcome any obstacles? How did you make a difference? What did you gain from this experience, and how is this beneficial for you as a leader? Link your reflections to the literature/readings. (approx. 450 words)
d. Analysis (activist section)- What worked well or didn’t work well? What should be the areas for future improvement? Did the experience enhance your professional practice? If you didn’t experience effective leadership, what would you do differently in your future teaching? What does the literature say about effective leadership? How can you be an activist for effective leadership? Consider the importance of advocating for effective leadership. Link your analysis to the literature/readings. (approx. 400 words)
e. Finish with a concise conclusion to summarise findings – no new information should be in the conclusion. (approx. 100 words)
Include a reference list of 7 or more academic readings/ sources. These can be readings provided from this unit, or other units. However please do not include reference to non-academic sources such as internet posts, blogs, videos etc. Maximum of 2 government documentations can be used (eg: NQS, EYLF, VEYLDaqwF, Code of Ethics etc).
